ALBERTA BEEF!

alberta has many nice and beautiful things to offer as paul brandt already knows. we for ourselves now know that you probably can get the best steak in the world here...

the keg is were we made our first alberta beef experience:

(please take note of the hummer in front of the entrance. they are omnipresent here!)
oh my gosh! look at that steak!
a short excerpt of the menu...*drool*

zotterlicious!

strolling on whyte ave

hi folks!

it's been a while since our last post...we had quite a few things to get managed. like getting a tenant's insurance, internet at our home, a cell phone (so f****** expensive here!), some more stuff from ikea and last but not least FOOD, which is quite expensive too, if you want it to be at least a little healthy.
on the weekends, however, we still had some time to look at our closer neighbourhood - whyte avenue, which happens to be THE main shopping street, lined by small cafes, nice restaurants and noisy bars. with some pictures we would like you to share our first impressions...

...in a little store called "Polly Magoo's"

a nice version of tic tac toe

german? not really...take a closer look! =)

the next few pictures we took at a store called "chicken scratch"

no further comment needed :o)

*rofl* "mini pooper" & "i pood"

a small tribute to austria...

sounds yummy, doesn't it?
(let us know if you wanna try them! [for a small remuneration maybe])

...and some more...

first work impressions...

As jini did so I will now,

I’ll allow you a peek at my workingspace. Actually only the place where my new MacBook (!!! I’m so happy with this tech-thingy) is set up and where I read my papers…

I like the atmosphere at my lab very much, really nice people from whom I will (hopefully) learn a lot of new stuff. Lab meetings and Journal Clubs are weekly, so new input is delivered freshly and directly.

This is my boss, Thomas - my colleagues call him “master”, for sure for some reason =)

…and here two of my lab mates: Suzie and Mike

…but not to forget the ones I didn’t show yet! Emily, Nancy, Jalal and Ross! (Mohammed also shows up once in a while)

That’s it for now from my work (and yes, I have to repeat my first experiment, of course, science as it is)

AUSTRIA, not Australia!

You wouldn't believe it, guys, but we were in the papers today! I'm not sure if you can read it, but it's about the crash on the A1. Finally, people will remember our little country ;)
Have a nice day!

Where I work

Here you can see the bench I share with Helen, a PhD student (Dissertantin), I also work with.... not so exciting? Well, the best is still to come: my dear fishy friends!

The constant dripping of the pump is very relaxing too.
Next you can see my favourite window of the lab, with the weird hallway :) I wonder when they will finally attach us to the building next door...

For those of you who aren't scientists, this is what a cellculture lab looks like, with hoods and lots of dangerous equipment *muhaha*

And of course, finally, my desk, which, as some of you already might know, is opposite to a -86 degrees freezer that makes a lot of noise (notice the beautiful laptop ;). My desk-neighbour is a PostDoc from Korea, whose name I can't spell correctly yet.

So now you know where I spend my weekdays from about 8:45 until 5 p.m., lucky you ;)

upcoming news

finally!

(die freude ist denkbar gross, but we hope the best for our unpaid work)

have a nice one!
