On campus

With the weather so nice, we like to stroll around on campus now and then.
The squirrels here are really cute and like to play hide and seek! Peekaboo!

The house with too many doors..
.. and beautiful peonies!

Eskimos in Edmonton

Not what you expected to see, eh? Tourists in front of Commonwealth Stadium, excited for the pre-season football game of the Edmonton Esks vs. the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Can you believe the sign (left of white arrow)?! Very considerate, these Canadians.
If your bags are checked depends totally on yourself.. either walk by or put your bag onto a table for inspection.
Perfect weather, also for the cheerleaders, go Esks gooooo!

Having fun with D&G, even when not watching the game :)
Thanks to G., we now even think we know the rules!
Oh, and never forget Voodoo powers.. always hit the other team's mascot really hard on the ground, it helps!
We were lucky to see 2 amazing touchdowns and the Esks winning 37:7, hooray!
Always encountering new things: here a huge washbasin which you activate by stepping on a ring on the floor. Fancy!!

GOLF - part I

This is me with my fancy borrowed golf set on my way to work and the 11th annual biochem golf tournament (what a huge truck!).
First, it was time to celebrate my co-worker's bday with a serious ice cream cake!
P. knew it right away... driving the golf cart is the most fun, yeehaa!
My pumped co-workers getting ready..
.. for hole #7, where we started our Texas scramble game. As we were 36 flights, 2 teams always started at the same hole.
My boss, leading the way.
Tiger salamanders!

My team, no caddies :) We were great, even though 2 out of 4 (including myself) had never played golf before!
Unfortunately, we had to quit our game at the 16th hole, because a thunderstorm had come up. Nevertheless, it was awesome! The steak dinner helped us get over it too.

Tea time

Being stuck in a major car jam, we decided to chase the LAMA and take ridiculous pictures ;)
(maybe we didn't have enough oxygen in the car?!)
After having delicious dinner (as always at H. and C.'s place!) it was time for dragonflower tea. You put the bulb into boiling water and then it opens up to look like this.. fancy!

Yup, we took lots of pics and videos of the tea :)

Bridal shower!

Love is in the air..

.. and so it was a really nice opportunity to celebrate my co-workers upcoming wedding in my other co-worker's garden. The weather was sunny and nice, so the bbq was perfect!
Let me introduce you to our "onlooker", a cute little squirrel who kept on stopping by!

Here the cute couple (notice the awesome pink bows!) opening gifts.
And of course lots of lovely food..
.. and cakes like from a picture book!
Game time: household-item-memory and boccie!

more celebrating

.. and so the celebrations went on after work on Friday at Avenue's, a comfy place to have pizza and beer just across the street from our work.

We were joined by D&G, who treated Kevin with some yummy maple syrup, eh (thanks)!
Also, a couple of people from the neighboring labs came, yay!

We had a really good time, and to try something truly Canadian again, we just had to play the computer game "Big Buck Hunter".
The main aim there is to shoot the moose, but not the does :)
Lots of fun!
Kevin in action!

Scared of Friday the 13th?

Then you might be suffering from paraskevidekatriaphobia or friggatriskaidekaphobia!
Anyway, after almost eating cereal with sour milk (ewww!), off we went to work; Luckily, the day was to get better (especially for Jini). She and her colleagues went out for lunch to "Culina", a small restaurant serving only local foods.
Here you can see almost all my co-workers, most of them Polish, others Chinese, Korean or Canadian!

Can you see the "groovy" Austrian Veltliner? ;)
Steak Sandwich with fries... getting hungry?

XXIV, congrats!

Unfortunately, Kevin's bday was not on the weekend, but we managed to sleep a bit longer even with the garbage truck.. and the breakfast wasn't bad either :) After that, it was off to work though!
Buuuut, after work, back to fun again!
After gift unwrapping...
.. and some serious decision making...
.. we enjoyed wonderful TexMex food with C. and her parents at Chili's.
(Thank you again so much!)

After the delicious meal we went to a nearby bookstore with the obligatory Starbucks inside :)
And to end a special day, a beautiful sunset.. what more can you ask for?
